The St James Gate signage was for a prestigious city office block located in the heart of Newcastle and just a short walk from Newcastle Central Station. This recently refurbished office block has been finished to an incredibly high standard, and the feel of the space is contemporary and very stylish. The clients were keen to have this look and finish reflected in the external signage, and they asked us to manufacture and install modern external signage that met this brief.

The original project specification required us to manufacture specialist Corten steel signage with fret cut lettering, but at short notice the client asked if we could enhance the aging process and essentially ‘pre-rust’ the steel so that it had an aged appearance from the point of installation. We think that it is important to accommodate mid-project requests and changes of plan, and our team quickly came up with a way of meeting this request and the results were fantastic.

Overall the project took four full weeks to complete, and we were able to add in the additional request of pre-rusting the steel within the original timescales that we agreed with the client. We love projects that give us the opportunity to think on our feet and come up with solutions that make a client vision a reality – this project was a great example of that and we’ve added the pre-rusting technique to our technical skills sheet!
