In partnership with Overbury, we worked together to produce custom signage for the refurbishment of Durham University Business School. The result is contemporary and creative, utilising custom wood accents, moss walls and illuminated letters to represent the innovation at the heart of the University itself.
We created custom directory signage, such as free-standing totems, acrylic wall panels and flat cut letters, which were designed to blend cohesively with the existing interior of the building by combining wood effect finishes, black detailing and white text for a sleek and professional contrast. To ensure the directory signage complemented the building throughout, we used architectural wood effect wraps to maintain consistency and style.
We also produced a custom wood sign, crafted from engraved Knauf interior panels with the Durham University crest, to create a unique piece of innovative signage that makes a statement on the university’s walls. This is joined by the artificial yet realistic moss wall mounted with built up face illuminated letters. By successfully weaving together these wood finishes and natural aesthetics, the university creates a calming ambience designed to boost productivity. Furthermore, we installed a vinyl manifestation of the university’s crest which compliments the building's large glass window, signposting the university and tying together the use of natural materials and lighting to enhance the open feel of the space.
Last but certainly not least is perhaps the most impressive part of this project: the set of illuminated letters we supplied and installed to the exterior of the building. We created large halo illuminated letters mounted to a custom frame to signpost the university and draw the eye to the spectacular building. Our team installed the letters onto the building at a tremendous 28 metres high, which was no mean feat, but was successfully completed by our skilled installers, creating a result which both ourselves and the client are extremely proud of
The finished refurbishment not only reflects Durham University's commitment to innovation but also creates an inspiring and inviting environment that blends modern design with natural elements to enhance both functionality and atmosphere.
